Con Questa’s Choices July 24, 2020
Stay close to home this summer and unwind in the beautiful city of Maastricht. A fun, historical city full of art and culture. Rather visit nature? The city is surrounded by hills and nature as well!
Our favourite hotels in the south of Limburg are the historical hotels of the Oostwegel Collection. The hotel collection consists of three unique hotels: Winselerhof (Landgraaf), Château St. Gerlach (Valkenburg) and Kruisherenhotel (Maastricht). Each hotel has its own charm and outstanding restaurants. Would you rather stay in the city center? The Fitz Roy – Urban Hotel, Bar & Garden is located in the most vibrant part of the city, just minutes away from world famous Vrijthof, in the hip, upcoming district ‘Sphinxkwartier’.
Maastricht is known for its culinary excellence, which is one of the reasons we never miss an opportunity to visit this wonderful city. The possibilities are endless, but we advise to include at least the following gastronomic delights: Cinq is a must-visit for a glass of wine on sunny days. Their terrace provides beautiful views of the Maas River. Do you fancy a fine-dining experience? Book your table at Brandsøn and indulge your taste buds! After dinner you cannot go without a visit to the exciting speakeasy bar Mr. Smith. The bar is located in a cozy cellar and their bartenders always manage to surprise us with their thoughtfully crafted cocktails.
Between Tongeren and Maastricht, along the old Roman roads and in the municipality of Riemst, lies the only Wine Castle of Belgium: Wijnkasteel – Chatêau Genoels-Elderen. A visit to the 25 hectares of vineyards, the park, rose garden, distillery, press house and cellars is a lovely occupation for an afternoon in the South of Limburg. De neighbouring cities Aken, Hasselt and Luik are worth a visit as well. The cities bring a nice diversity of art and culture!
